the.lawn.mower - A disturbing devotion to everything you need to know about buying and maintaining a lawn mower and the different types and brands. | Here at CALL TOM! Small Equipment Repair, we repair almost ANY item you can bring to us that will fit in our shop: Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, or Pneumatic. (No cars, trucks, or boats, please.) This is a one-man shop, with no partner shops anywhere else. (This statement is kind of a disclaimer for the people in states other than Idaho who want me to repair their equipment. If you wish to ship it to me to repair, I can handle it.) Most of our repairs are lawn mowers and riding mowers of all kinds, chainsaws, string trimmers, and tillers, but we've also repaired sewing machines, wood chippers, motorcycles, ATV's, wheel line engines, small tractors, (up to about 50 HP, so they fit inside the shop) electric shopping carts, electric wheelchairs, forklifts, snowblowers, snowmobiles, and many other pieces of small equipment, Please see the 'Our Services' pages for pictures and descriptions of some of the equipment we've worked on. (There's only a few things we DO NOT repair: Cars, Trucks, and Boats.) Hours of Operation: We're ALWAYS open, 24 / 7 / 365, simply call 208-219-0839 for an appointment between the hours of 8AM and 8PM, when my phone is on. You may drop off or pick up equipment at YOUR convenience, regardless of the day or time, as long as you let me know you are coming at a certain time. Our greatest concern is our customers! We provide Quality work at a Reasonable cost. We DO NOT mark up our parts: what we pay is what the customer pays. We pass all our cost savings on to you, the customer. If we can't repair your equipment, (inability to get or fabricate parts, lack of knowledge on our part, etc.),there is no labor charge. (This does NOT include being unable to repair your equipment within a negotiated price range.) If you have any questions about an item to be repaired, or just a general question you need answered, please CALL TOM! and ask! |

About Us...
The business was officially opened (Made Legal) in September of 2008, Tom Wagner is the Sole Proprietor.
I started as a gas pump jockey at the tender age of 15 in a rural Gulf gas station. In high school, I took a three year course in Auto Mechanics, graduating second in my class (by a tenth of a point, thanks to Bob Van Fleet). While still in school, I was working in a Ford Dealership, doing all their valve jobs and engine overhauls. On weekends and nights, I worked in various garages rebuilding engines and doing vehicle maintenance on cars and trucks. I spent some of my off time working with a buddy straightening frames (cars and trucks) across the street from the dealership. I also worked on heavy equipment, rebuilding track, engine maintenance, welding, and some painting. After moving to Florida, I joined another Ford dealership, doing some lighter maintenance work on vehicles - tuneups, wiring, radios, not much engine work. Frequently working two or three jobs at a time, I found I really enjoyed welding, with experience in gas, stick, MIG, and TIG. From the experience of learning from a great blacksmith from Austria, my paternal grandfather, I opened a successful body shop in Florida, and worked on everything from newspaper boxes, horse trailers, cattle trailers, big rigs, and even got to work on a few cars! (You see, I knew what I was doing in metal and paint, I just didn't realize there were 28 other bodyshops in the county!) I then joined the U.S. Navy as a Machinist's Mate. When I went to pick a Navy job, they handed me the book...my test scores were high enough that I could pick whatever I wanted. There was just one little problem - I'm color blind, therefore only three jobs were available to me, so I picked Machinist's Mate. I learned all about steam and turbines, and auxiliary equipment on a ship. Six years in the Navy, Honorably discharged, I applied for a job at the Exxon Oil Refinery in Benicia, CA, and was hired, where I stayed for 14 years. (Blew out both knees climbing ladders - medical termination.) Worked for a Kubota Tractor agency as their only mechanic. Typically had 10 - 15 jobs working at a time, ordered all my own parts, applied for warranty claims on the tractors I worked on, too. The housing market was peaking about that time, sold the house and moved to Paul, Idaho in May of 2005. Worked for a while as a parts manager for a local international company, and another tractor agency. My wife decided she wanted me here at home, so I opened my own business, here, 100' away from our house.
So there's over 40 years of experience for you. Can I fix what you broke? More than likely! Since the business opened officially in 2008, we've had many satisfied customers. If you happen to be one of the very few UNsatisfied customers, please know I make EVERY effort to see that you have your needs met. If you have a problem, I can't do anything about it until I know a problem exists...I STAND BEHIND MY WORK!
