Howard 120" Rotavator (Tractor Mounted Tiller)
We received a call from a potential customer, asking if we worked on tillers. To which I replied we do. I then asked him what was wrong with his tiller. He explained he thought he had a broken gear. I explained that gears are expensive, are you sure the tiller is worth repairing? He assured me it was worth the cost. I asked him what brand tiller he had. He told me "Howard." I had never heard of a Howard tiller, so I asked him what size it is. He said it's a small one. I told him to bring it over, I'm sure I can repair it for him. Well, Folks, my business name says SMALL Equipment Repair. This thing didn't even fit into the shop. He drove in on a John Deere tractor with six foot tall tires on the back, and a 120" monster tiller hanging on the back! My eyebrows went up a full inch! It turns out this IS a small tiller, for Howard...Howard makes them up to 20 feet wide! $5,000 worth of gearbox parts later, and $800 in labor costs, and he left, a VERY happy customer.
Gas Engine Forklift
This forklift had been sitting behind our local food market for a time. I needed to get it to my shop for repairs, so I called Gibsons Truck & Auto, had them bring it out to me. It needed a good cleaning, and a fuel pump. The mechanical fuel pump was going to be a problem to get to, so I opted to install an electric fuel pump. When it started, it blew a hydraulic hose, which I had made at Snake River Hydraulics and I installed.

A Snowmobile Crowd at CALL TOM!
The gang's all here! Two outgoing, two incoming.
The owner was happy with the seat reupholstery, and he was really happy about the bill! How happy was he? He brought two more sleds with him for me to repair! All he needs now is a little snow to go have some fun.

Two Polaris Sleds Completed
The sled on the left, a liquid cooled Polaris 700 RMK Indy, got a reupholstered seat at Frontier Upholstery, (Fantastic job, Andy!), an oil leak repaired at the oil reservoir, and a full service. The sled on the right, an air cooled Polaris 550 RMK Trail, had the pull rope replaced, and a full service.
Polaris 600 RMK 144 Snowmobile
This snowmobile had a seized engine due to a failed oil pump when it came in. We found a good price
on a used engine from Mickey's Sleds & More in Midland, Michigan, had it shipped here, and installed it.
The Pit Stop supplied some help pulling off the flywheel and clutch for me, and provided some guidance.(Thanks, Dan!) This is my first snowmobile repair, and I'm looking for more to repair. Does yours need help?

Aztec ProScrub
(CALL TOM! is an Authorized Repair Facility for Aztec Products, Inc.)
This is a Floor Scrubbing Machine from our local market. It was experiencing short usage periods due to degrading batteries. Because the batteries were so low on voltage over long periods of time, the solenoid burned out from excessive amperage drawn at lower than rated voltage. The solenoid and batteries were replaced. Works fine. Also, the vacuum motor was replaced.
Gas Powered Air Compressor
This gas engine powered compressor was bought at a yard sale, really needed some help. It was delivered to me in a box, the owner thinking he could repair it himself. I rebuilt the carburetor, rebuilt and set the pressure switch that kicks the gas engine to a higher RPM when the pressure drops, and kicks it down when pressure builds up. Runs fairly well.
Inva-Lift
This is an obviously valuable piece of equipment to those who need help. The electric motor operated well, but operation was intermittent. I was sure the problem involved a shorted or open wire from the control to the motor, since the owner had done a parts replacement troubleshooting on it. Of course, when you take a piece of equipment in to be repaired, nothing is wrong, as it happened in this case, too. I checked it all out, it works so far...AND THERE WAS NO CHARGE, since I didn't fix anything!
Merits Electric Wheelchair
Kids can be hell on a wheelchair. They don't realize just how much the parts can cost. The joyrides are fun, but broken parts are sure to happen. Somehow, latex paint got into the joystick controller and burned out the circuit board. It also had a bad battery charger (not the kids' fault) and a broken cable end. We saved this lady a trip to Boise, along with a pricey stay in a motel for the big repair shop to work on the chair. She dropped it off at our shop, we sent for the necessary parts, and, it works again, for less than half the price it would have cost just to go to Boise for repairs.
Gas Bar-B-Q Grille
The people who own this grille got a nasty surprise when the flames came out around the control knob on the front control panel. They also requested to change from natural gas to a propane tank hookup. We changed the internal manifold to cure the flaming problem, and added a tank valve.
Sign Painting
This isn't an everyday job, I'm not giving the sign companies any competition! This is just to let you know that here, at CALL TOM!, we can handle just about anything thrown our way.

Honda Generator
This generator needed the fuel system cleaned. The carb was varnished, the fuel hose was in bad shape, and the fuel tank was full of dirt...and a leather glove, (just to the right of the date in the photograph), courtesy of grandson. The muffler was repacked to make it quieter, and a quick disconnect was added to allow the battery to remain wired when disconnected. (Just hook up the disconnect and start the generator)

Onan Generator in a Motor Home
Sometimes, small equipment which requires some maintenance, exists in larger equipment. This Onan generator is in a motor home. We removed the generator because it didn't run reliably at first, then quit completely. The generator had an electronic ignition installed, which failed. Onan no longer supports electronic ignition in this model, so we converted back to points. This was a first for us - electronic ignition to points. The main thing is that the unit works, and the owner is happy.
Craftsman 10KW Generator
Sometimes, a little knowledge can be really bad...expensive kind of bad. This generator wouldn't start. The problem was narrowed down to the low oil pressure switch, so the switch was bypassed. The generator started, and seized about two minutes later. They didn't think about checking the oil, which was low, which caused the low oil pressure switch to prevent starting. It cost this customer almost $900 to repair the damage that one quart of oil would have prevented.
